Greetings from Sherry Lovers

Tasting Sherry is a magical sensation. When you choose the wrong style of Sherry, you will never want to have it again and if you choose a right one, you never forget the taste. The bestselling novelist Wuyue once wrote in her book that some women found Sherry in a wine shop by accident after heart-breaking relationships. They took it home and found it comforting. By choosing a sweet Sherry they helped sooth their sadness. Sherry looks gentle but has strength and character. Sweet Sherries matches well with desserts as the strong fragrance of wines beautifully complementing the sweet treats.

Sherry News New Grape Harvest Festival

葡萄豐收The world of Sherry will be the main theme of the forthcoming Grape Harvest Festival which is to be held in Jerez between the 5th and 20th of September. During the event, the entire city is filled with festive activities which celebrate the arrival of the new mosto and give locals the opportunity to renew their special bond with the wines produced in their region. For the thousands of visitors who are expected to come to the area at the time, the festival offers the perfect opportunity for furthering their knowledge about the region and its winemaking tradition.

For Jerez the annual celebration of the harvest and the production of the first mostos represent a renovation of the economic, social, and cultural life of a city in which the vineyards and bodegas have been the main source of livelihood for a large part of the population for numerous generations.

Jerez City Council organises this festival in collaboration with the Consejo Regulador and the local bodegas with the aim of highlighting the presence of wine and its culture in all the activities and celebrations.

Wine will therefore be the main theme of a comprehensive programme of activities including "De copa en copa", the second edition of a fair held in the heart of the city which offers visitors the opportunity to taste the wines produced by a representative group of local bodegas over a whole week. The fair takes place from the 7th to the 13th of September.

During the event, numerous local bodegas hold open days and there will be a wide range of activities including special tasting sessions featuring our best wines in the unique setting of the Alcazar, exhibitions by venenciadores, a crafts market with harvest-related products, the opportunity to watch the sunset from a vineyard, a street exhibition featuring traditional bodega work, etc.

The writer from Jerez José Manuel Caballero Bonald will be in charge of delivering the opening speech of the festival, an event which highlights the long standing winemaking tradition of the Jerez region whilst contributing to further promote wine tourism in the area. The inaugural speech marks the beginning of the festival which starts on the 6th of September with the traditional treading of the grapes and the offering of the first mosto to Saint Gines de la Jara.

Sherry Wine Association Activities Hangchow Cuisine Meets with Sumptuous Sherries

Sherry represents the best of traditional Spanish wines, produced from Jerez region of Andalusia in south Spain. In winemaking processes, distillated grape wine is added after the fermentation to create a fortified wine with higher alcohol content in than in normal wines, usually between 15%-21% vol. "Tien Hsiang Lo" in the Landis Hotel Taipei is renowned for its Hangchow cuisine, which is one of the most distinguished styles of Chinese cooking. The head chef Yang Guang Zon and his F&B team prepared the featured dishes of the restaurant with Sherries, creating an exquisite menu to showcase the fusion of Chinese and Western culture in "Hangchow Cuisine & Spanish Sherry Wine". Besides using Sherries as an ingredient in the dishes, the restaurant picked out three special wines from Bodegas Emilio Lustau (founded in 1896, one of the best Sherry houses in Andalusia) to match with the tasteful cuisine. These included Jerez Manzanilla Sherry "Papirusa", Palo Cortado de Jerez and East India Solera Sherry. While savoring the delightful Hangchow cuisine, lucky diners also indulged in the excellent taste of Sherry.

Food & Wine Matching Stir Fried Minced Chicken with Pine Nuts on Lettuce vs. Gonzalez Byass, Tio Pepe Fino
生菜松子酥雞 Under the creation of Chef Yang Guong Zong of "Tien Hsiang Lo" Taipei, tender diced chicken with slightly crispy surface, pine nuts and sweet-and-sour dried cranberry, toghther with fresh lettuce create a fresh and flavorful dish with sensual textures. The dish matches particularly well with chilled Gonzalez Byass, Tio Pepe Fino, the world's best-selling Fino sherry that offers a combination of almond, yeast and intense fruit aromas and flavors.
